Threshing Day (Limited Deluxe Edition) by Rebecca Yarros brings thirteen thrilling Empyrean stories from Basgiath’s deadly dragon trial.

Return to the dangerous and addictive world of the Empyrean series with Threshing Day (Limited Deluxe Edition), a collection that brings together thirteen unforgettable stories set during one of the most decisive moments at Basgiath War College.

Power always comes at a price in Rebecca Yarros’s bestselling fantasy universe. Behind every bond between dragon and rider lies a trial of courage, instinct and survival, while alliances can be as important as strength. Threshing Day places readers at the centre of the brutal competition in which cadets attempt to prove themselves worthy of a dragon – knowing that failure can mean death.

The collection revisits familiar characters including Xaden Riorson, Rhiannon Matthias, Dain Aetos, Liam Mairi, Ridoc Gamlyn, Sawyer Henrick, Garrick Tavis, Imogen Cardulo, Bodhi Durran, Mira and Brennan Sorrengail, Aaric Graycastle and Sloane Mairi. By focusing on thirteen different cadets, the book expands the world surrounding the central Empyrean storyline and offers readers new perspectives on characters they already know.

Although the book can serve as an introduction to the Empyrean universe, it contains spoilers and is therefore best read after Fourth Wing, Iron Flame and Onyx Storm.

Discover the beloved world of the recordbreaking, multimillioncopy bestselling series where power always demands a price, secrets darken every hallway, and death is only ever a heartbeat away.

"Yarros is the true inheritor of Harry Potter and inspires Hunger Games levels of devotion" – Guardian

Rebecca Yarros’s Empyrean series has developed into a global fantasy phenomenon, combining dragons, military training, deadly competition, romance and political intrigue within the dangerous environment of Basgiath War College. Threshing Day (Limited Deluxe Edition) expands that world by shifting attention towards thirteen characters whose experiences help reveal the scale and brutality of the riders’ most important trial.

Rather than concentrating on a single perspective, these stories provide an opportunity to revisit characters who have played very different roles throughout the series. Xaden Riorson’s authority, Liam Mairi’s loyalty, Rhiannon Matthias’s intelligence, Ridoc Gamlyn’s humour and Mira Sorrengail’s fearlessness are placed alongside the experiences of cadets such as Sawyer, Garrick, Imogen, Bodhi, Brennan, Aaric and Sloane.

That broader perspective makes the collection particularly significant for readers already invested in the Empyrean universe. Familiar relationships and rivalries gain additional context, while Threshing itself becomes more than an event in the background of the larger narrative. It emerges as a defining experience shared by generations of riders – a day on which ambition, loyalty and survival collide.

The physical presentation also distinguishes this release from a standard fantasy edition. Sixteen original fullcolour illustrations by artist Joe Requeza add a visual dimension to the stories, while silvergilded edges make the book particularly appealing as a collector’s edition.

For established fans, Threshing Day offers another opportunity to explore Basgiath and its riders while waiting to discover where the wider Empyrean story goes next.

Threshing Day (Limited Deluxe Edition) is ideal for readers who have already been swept into Rebecca Yarros’s Empyrean universe through Fourth Wing, Iron Flame and Onyx Storm. Because the collection contains spoilers connected to the wider series, readers who want to experience the story chronologically should preferably finish Onyx Storm before entering these thirteen accounts of Threshing Day.

The book will particularly appeal to fans who want more insight into the supporting characters of the series. Xaden, Rhiannon, Dain, Liam, Ridoc, Sawyer, Garrick, Imogen, Bodhi, Mira, Brennan, Aaric and Sloane each bring a different personality and perspective to the dangerous traditions of Basgiath War College. Their stories broaden the world beyond a single protagonist and reveal how differently cadets experience the same deadly institution.

Readers drawn to romantasy, epic fantasy, dragon fantasy, military fantasy and fantasy romance will find many of the elements that made the Empyrean series internationally popular: dangerous trials, powerful dragons, intense rivalries, shifting alliances, courage under pressure and characters forced to make lifechanging decisions.

The deluxe format also makes this edition especially suitable for collectors. With sixteen original fullcolour illustrations by Joe Requeza and silvergilded edges, it is designed as a visually distinctive addition to an Empyrean collection. Since the deluxe first edition will only be available while supplies last, it also differs materially from the later standard edition.
